Chickens like to bake on Saturday - or so I'm told

I am currently working on my new rug hooking pattern. It is inspired by my love of vintage embroidered days of the week (DOW) kitchen towels.

I have collected several over the years. Here are a few of my favorites...

Tea and yarn - love it!

Kittens to clean my house? I wish!

I just love the embroidery work on the flowers in this one. I believe it is the raised spiderweb stitch. Here is a close up..

This one is my favorite! It was a gift from my mom.

So with this inspiration in my mind, I came up with the pattern for Bake on Saturday. I can't wait to hang this rug on the wall in my kitchen!

According to most DOW sets, we are supposed to bake on Saturday and that is exactly what this fat little hen is doing!

Here is the pattern...

I have lots of embellishments in store for this rug. She will have lovely fabric curtains up to her window and of course wearing a charming apron! I am contemplating adding a rug under her feet. Hardwood floors can be chilly underfoot.

Here is my progress so far...

Oh dear! Now that I am looking at this pic, it looks like she is wearing a beanie hat on her head. I think I need to take that out and re-hook it with a little thinner red wool.

I will be sure to announce when the pattern and complete instructions for the mixed media embellishments are available in my Etsy shop.

***I want to say a big Hello to my friend Tonya! And thanks for being my first follower!

Have a wonderful day!

Treasure in my own backyard

I woke up today feeling particularly uninspired and lethargic. Lately I have been feeling a quiet longing for change. A change in scenery, a change in our daily routine and most of all a change in where we call home. I have lived in the same town for nearly all of my 47 years. I have been thinking how lovely any place but here would be.

With the irritating and troublesome antics of a puppy encouragement from my friend Dakota I decided to go for a walk. My mom has always told me that the best way to change a mood is to go for a walk. I grabbed my camera, harnessed up my pup and decided to go find the treasure in my own backyard.

Let's go mom!

We set off ready to see if we could possibly find anything photo worthy in our boring suburban neighborhood.

We headed to the park down the street and found this lovely couple enjoying a leisurely swim. I wonder if they had been arguing prior to our arrival. They didn't seem to be on "let's swim side-by-side" terms.

The sound of the water was very calming and my spirits began to lift.

This little fellow was watching us while on his lunch break.

As we continued down the path, the sound of the traffic and sirens ( we lived nestled between a hospital and a fire station) began to fade away.

What a beautiful day!

As we rounded the bend something caught my eye...

I was feeling pretty good by now and even had a pep to my step!

Beautiful tiny purple flowers
By the time we returned home, I was happy, full of energy and was inspired to make several sketches in my sketchbook for future pattern ideas.

I think I found some of the treasure I was looking for.

Dakota got a large drink of water and fell fast asleep.

It is going to be a lovely day!

Have a wonderful day, wherever you are.
